Swets et Ex Libris collaborent pour une interopérabilité Alma-SwetsWise

Customers of the two companies will benefit from enhanced selection and acquisition workflows

Jerusalem, Israel, & Leiden, The Netherlands—January 22, 2014. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, has entered into a collaborative partnership with Swets, a leading provider of content management services for libraries. The collaboration will provide staff at academic and research libraries with a new, streamlined acquisition process compatible with both Ex Libris Alma and the SwetsWise platform. In addition, the collaboration will enable libraries to reduce costs associated with acquisitions and to avoid unnecessary spending.

Leveraging Alma’s open architecture, the first deliverable of this project will automatically update Alma with all print and electronic purchasing transactions that are made through the SwetsWise platform or any other Swets channel. A future deliverable will update the SwetsWise platforms with workflows that are initiated in Alma, thereby further streamlining workflows and processes for library staff. Ex Libris and Swets plan to release the first product of their partnership by mid-2014, and will extend the collaboration over the following months.

Web of Science restera bien dans les solutions discovery

Après l’annonce soudaine de retrait de Web of Science des solutions discovery, on apprend aujourd’hui que la base de données de Thomson Reuters restera bien dans Primo Central Index et ce, suite à un nouvel accord conclu avec Ex Libris :

In continuation to my message below, I’m happy to report that Ex Libris has now reached an agreement with Thomson Reuters to continue to provide the Web of Science content within Primo Central for the benefit of mutual customers. Thomson Reuters and Ex Libris recognize the value libraries receive from the integration of Web of Science into Primo Central and we are happy to see this relationship continue.

The Primo community voice was evidently heard by Thomson Reuters, and we encourage you to continue pursuing similar campaigns with other content providers still resisting to participate in Primo Central.

We will be sending this message also to our Primo Central customer list, as we acknowledge that not all subscribe to the Primo listserv. We apologize in advance for any cross-posting.

Web of Science quitte Primo Central et les autres solutions discovery

L’éditeur Thomson Reuters a récemment décidé de retirer le contenu de Web of Science des solutions discovery Primo Central Index (PCI), EDS et Summon. À partir du 1er janvier 2014, les données de WoS ne seront ainsi plus disponibles pour les clients de discovery par ailleurs abonnés à Web of Science :

Thomson Reuters has decided to focus on enabling customers and end users to use the Web of Science research discovery environment as the primary interface for authoritative search and evaluation of citation connected research. For this reason Thomson Reuters will no longer make Web of Science content available for indexing within EBSCO, Summon, or Primo Central.  Thomson Reuters will, however, continue to support Web of Science accessibility via integrated federated search tools that are available in Primo or other systems.

Cette décision est très sans doute liée au récent projet pilote de linking entre Google et Thomson Reuters, en partenariat avec 125 universités :

This summer, the two companies piloted linking their content at more than 125 leading university research institutions worldwide. When Google Scholar users at the participating institutions hit the Scholar search results page, they see a new Web of Science link directly in the results, under the article preview, as part of Scholar’s familiar navigation bar. On Web of Science, subscribers now can move directly from a Web of Science record to a Scholar search on the same item.

En termes de visibilité des données, l’impact de cette décision devrait être limité pour de très nombreux utilisateurs de Primo Central. En effet, pour les institutions qui disposent en parallèle d’une souscription à la base de données Scopus (Elsevier), cette ressource vient tout récemment d’être pleinement intégrée à Primo Central (données bibliographiques et liens vers les citations). La mise à jour de Scopus dans PCI se fait de façon hebdomadaire. Par ailleurs, à l’heure actuelle, les données bibliographiques de plus de 170 éditeurs et fournisseurs sont directement indexés dans Primo Central (American Institute of Physics, American Mathematical Society, American Psychological Association, Annual Reviews, BioOne, Brepols, Brill, CAB International, CAIRN, Cambridge University Press, CrossRef, Dawsonera, DOAJ, Ebooks Corporation, Ebrary, Érudit, Elsevier, Emerald, IEEE Publishing, IOP Publishing, JSTOR, John Wiley, LexisNexis, MIT Press , Modern Language Association, Nature Publishing Group , OAPEN, OECD, Oxford University Press, Palgrave Macmillan SAGE Publications, SciELO, Springer, Taylor & Francis, Walter de Gruyter…). Sur un plan strictement bibliographique, le recouvrement des données éditeurs et fournisseurs intégrées à Primo Central avec les données issues de Web of Science est probablement élevé.

Cette décision de Thomson Reuters rappelle quelque peu la « guerre des métadonnées » entre Ex Libris et EBSCO. En 2009, les deux sociétés ont signé un accord de partenariat pour intégrer des bases de données telles que Academic Search et Business Source dans Primo Central. En 2010, avec le déploiement progressif de sa propre solution EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), EBSCO a décidé de ne plus rendre ses bases accessibles via Primo Central. Ainsi, à partir de janvier 2011, les données n’étaient plus accessibles aux clients Primo Central souscrivant aux bases de données EBSCO que via des API dédicacées. Les API EBSCO ne permettant cependant pas le même niveau d’accessibilité aux données qu’une intégration à part entière, plusieurs clients EBSCO-Ex Libris ont été déçus de ce changement de politique. Cela a amené l’International Group of Ex Libris Users (IGeLU) et l’ELUNA (Ex Libris Users of North America) à lancer en 2011 une pétition en faveur d’une plus grande mise à disposition des métadonnées par les éditeurs et agrégateurs. À ce jour, cette pétition a rassemblé plus de 470 signataires.

ORBi, le dépôt institutionnel de l’Université de Liège, intègre Primo Central

ORBiAvec plus de 97.600 références, dont plus de 31.000 avec un texte intégral en Open Access, ORBi, bibliographie et dépôt institutionnel de l’Université de Liège (ULg), a fait sa place dans la communauté scientifique liégeoise et mondiale. En plus d’être moissonné depuis plusieurs années par les outils Google Scholar, OpenAIRE, Base, Driver, Isidore, etc., le contenu d’ORBi est également désormais référencé dans l’index Primo Central.

Primo Central Index est un méga-agrégateur contenant plusieurs centaines de millions de références de ressources électroniques de nature scientifique (articles, livres, chapitres, comptes rendus, rapports, documents légaux, images…) mises à disposition par des éditeurs et agrégateurs. Depuis février 2013, comme plus de 1.900 autres, les Bibliothèques de l’ULg souscrivent à ce service, permettant ainsi à leurs usagers d’accéder directement et facilement à de nombreuses ressources en ligne, souscrites ou gratuites.

La société Ex Libris mène une politique active en matière de mise à disposition de ressources Open Access via Primo Central. L’une de ses initiatives est la possibilité pour les universités et centres de recherche d’intégrer leurs archives ouvertes dans Primo Central. Depuis le printemps 2013, ORBi fait partie des 33 dépôts institutionnels actuellement intégrés à Primo Central :

À ce jour, plus de 350 institutions utilisatrices de Primo Central ont déjà intégré les références Open Access issues d’ORBi dans les résultats de recherche de leurs usagers, offrant ainsi une plus grande et meilleure visibilité des publications scientifiques de l’Université de Liège et mettant celles-ci au coeur des outils professionnels de recherche bibliographique.

Pour plus de contenus souscrits accessibles via les solutions discovery

L’International Group of Ex Libris Users (IGeLU) soutient l’accès aux métadonnées des contenus souscrits (bases de données, e-books, e-journaux…) via toutes les solutions discovery. Aussi, cette association a-t-elle établi un modèle de clause que les bibliothèques peuvent, si elles le souhaitent, intégrer systématiquement dans leurs licences avec les éditeurs et fournisseurs.

What libraries can do!

Although libraries want the content they subscribe to be available for users in their preferred discovery services, some vendors unfortunately still don’t allow general discovery services to index this licensed content.
To facilitate our users using rich (meta)data to discover the content we subscribe for them, IGeLU suggests always to include a clause in the content agreements with our current and future content providers.

The clause we suggest is:
“[Vendor] shall make / shall continue making the content listed below available through Discovery Service Provider such as Ex Libris’ Primo Central Index, Serial Solutions’ Summon, EBSCO’s EDS, OCLC’ WorldCat Local, etc. on a non-exclusive basis, to be used by such Discovery Service Providers for indexing and discovery purposes.

[Vendor] shall make reasonable efforts to provide the Discovery Service Provider, on an on-going basis, with as comprehensive content for indexing as possible – citation metadata (including without limitations subject headings and keywords), abstract and full-text, all as available – to facilitate optimal discovery of the content for the benefit of [Library] users.

[Vendor] shall not discriminate between the world’s leading Discovery Service Providers listed above. Discovery Service Providers should be treated equal, thus giving [Library] the freedom to contract their preferred Discovery Service Providers.

For each of the [databases/collections/packages] listed below, [Vendor] shall provide – in addition to basic citation metadata – also the following:

/[Database name] Subject headings / keywords / abstracts /full-text/
Etc.”

We encourage you all to include this clause in future agreements with your content providers in order to give our users the best benefit of the content we subscribe for them.
